Agreement for the commercialization of camel milk products in France
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has just confirmed new agreements for the marketing of camel milk produced in France, responding to the request of the president of the French Federation of Camels, Olivier Philipponneau; Doctor Bernard Faye, pioneer scientist of camel milk throughout the world and vice-president of the French Federation of Camels; and the director of the company Camel-Idea and vice-president of the French Federation of Camels, Fabrice Weecksteen.
Concretely, camel milk producers in France have the possibility of offering their camel milk for sale to individuals as well as to retailers, in compliance with the law and health obligations specified on the guidance document concerning the application of the provisions of Regulation (EC) 853/2004.
This document laying down specific hygiene rules applicable to food of animal origin, indicates as an example for other animal species, that the on the camel milk market is possible provided that the production and processing of this milk is carried out in accordance with the requirements of regulations (EC) n° 852/2004 and (EC) 853/2004.
Therefore, European regulations pose no obstacle in principle to the production and processing of this milk; in this sense, France does not derogate from this principle.
The French camelid breeders can benefit from the same application of Community food safety regulations as other countries from other EU.
